Learning Area Requirements

To facilitate learning, particularly for an online course, the following resources are required:

Learning Area Description

The learning area is English for Grade 5. It is structured around several key strands designed to develop comprehensive literacy and communication skills:

  • Listening and Speaking: Focuses on pronunciation (e.g., sounds like /a:/, /ʌ/, /t/, /d/), vocabulary acquisition, polite expressions, and interactive communication.

  • Reading: Includes oral narratives, poems, visual reading (interpreting maps and signs), and extensive reading of fiction and non-fiction materials.

  • Grammar in Use: Covers parts of speech such as demonstrative determiners, collective nouns, reflexive pronouns, possessive pronouns, and various language patterns.

  • Writing: Emphasizes mechanics, handwriting (joined/cursive script), filling forms, and creative composition writing.

Learning Area Outcomes

By the end of the term, learners are expected to achieve specific outcomes across different strands:

  • Effective Communication: Use polite language, correct stress, and appropriate intonation in debates and everyday dialogues.
